Beauty Supplies

Filed under: Skin Care, Beauty, Womens Health — @ 11:12 am

Picking out the right salon beauty supplies is one of the most challenging parts of getting ahead in what is already a tough business. Just getting the right beauty products - the lotions, rubs, creams, and makeup - can be tough in and of itself. There are literally hundreds of brands out there to choose from, and the choices that you make reflect a lot on your company. Should you go for the greatest possible variety, or should you stick with one or two companies whose products you really like?

I have always liked taking the latter course, although I can see arguments for both. I know that it is a little bit risky, but when people come to my salon spa, they are putting themselves into my care. The whole point of being in to a salon is to take a bit of a break from the day-to-day grind we all live through. It is ice to not make choices and to be able to trust your beauticians, masseurs, and other beauty technicians. That is why it is proper to stick with a few trusted companies rather than carrying substandard products for the sake of variety.

One of the most important things when you are buying beauty supplies is to make sure to combine function and appearance. Spa supplies need to be relaxing, but they also need to look relaxing. This is especially important when you are looking for salon furniture and decoration. Things with indefinite organic forms are always nice. In terms of spa furniture, it is nice to get a variety of different feels. You can have chairs that are soft enough for clients to sink in to them, but also less padded benches for massages. Some people like a lot of padding on their furniture, while others like the feeling of definite support beneath them. It is necessary to cater to both tastes.

Finally, of course, is the beauty equipment. This is the toughest part of beauty supplies, because it is the high-tech part. Features like laser hair removal and skin resurfacing are becoming popular parts of spas in many parts of the world. It is a good idea to invest in some of these beauty supplies, as it is always good to be able to offer a new service. You might be able to lure in some new clients, and sell a few additional services to existing ones.

Vitamins And Minerals

Filed under: Fitness, Nutrition, Vitamins, Health — @ 10:13 am

You hear a lot about vitamins and minerals, but do you have any idea if you are getting what you need? For the most part, you probably are. There are times when we don’t however, and this lead to a very interesting theory. My mom gave me a book she had read a while back, and it claimed that those who don’t get the right vitamins and minerals each day not only get sick much easier, they also walk around with unusual cravings.

I read though the book and it got me thinking about a teacher I had in sixth grade. This guy was your typical teacher, though he was not very animated. Quite often he would eat the chalk he had in the class room. Though we thought it was funny at the time, I never considered there might be a reason why he did it. Could it have something to do with the amount of vitamins and minerals in his diet? I have no idea, but this book was telling me it was. It’s an interesting theory. Our bodies do crave vitamins and minerals we aren’t getting, but would it make us eat chalk?

My this might explain why you crave certain foods. That’s certainly not as shocking as eat chalk, but this might explain odd cravings, especially during pregnancy. Pregnant women need more vitamins and minerals then anyone else, and they need to be sure they get them. If they aren’t getting the vitamins and minerals for themselves as well as what they need for their growing baby, does this drive them to ask for Italian dressing and hotdogs in the middle of the night? I don’t know.

Though the guy who wrote the book made some great points, I honestly don’t know if a lack of essential vitamins and minerals might explain cravings. What I do know is that if you are dieting you deal with cravings every day, and perhaps making sure your intake of vitamins and minerals is what is should be might just stop a few of those crazy urges that make you over eat. Even though it’s just a theory, perhaps making sure you take a daily vitamin might help you to keep a lid on your urges just incase it works. If you take up a diet plan that ensures you get the right foods each and every day, perhaps that, along with the vitamins, might give you the head start you need to stay on track. Just stay away from the chalk, ok?

Social Anxiety Disorder Part 2

Filed under: Mental Health, Family Health, Health — @ 5:18 pm

Through the years of being a asocial worker I have had the privilege of working with many people. I have had a variety of case loads dealing with child protection, vulnerable adult investigations, case management of people with traumatic head injuries and also case management of people with mental illness. Although some of the clients have been resistive to change, I have found that everyone, no matter what their mental they want to be accepted by others and crave a life of happiness.

One of the more challenging groups that I have dealt with are people with social anxiety disorder. This disorder often referred to as fear of the marketplace, affects people of all ages, socio economic backgrounds and ethnicity. Unlike many disorders that manifest at puberty or young adulthood, social anxiety disorder can start at any age and it can be brought on by a number of different causes. The group meetings that I held for people with social anxiety disorder were for adults. Social anxiety for adolescents involves many different contributing factors and I do not like treating teenagers with adults.  The adults in my group ranged in age from late twenties to early fifties. Some of the group members had been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder since they were teenagers and others had been recently diagnosed. One woman had been the vice president of a major advertising company. She was in her late forties and had worked her way up through the ranks. She was an expert at giving presentations on ad campaigns and was considered a leader in her field. She did seminars for new recruits within her company and had also presented at a national convention. Two years ago she began going through menopause. She was embarrassed by her hot flashes and the profuse sweating that followed them, as well as her unpredictable and heavy menstrual flow. She began isolating in her apartment and within six months she had so much anxiety at the thought of leaving her apartment that she did not go. She broke off all ties with friends and relatives, quit her job and rarely answered her phone or door. Her sister was finally able to convince her to get help and that is how she found her way into my group. We are not sure what brought on her social anxiety disorder. I speculate it was a combination of hormonal changes, extreme fatigue and an adverse reaction to the synthetic hormones that had been prescribed for her.

There is hope for those that suffer from this disorder. Family members and friends need to be patient with the person and recognize that their fears are very real to them and that the anxiety they feel will cause them some physical reactions. The worse thing you can do is to ignore the person’s fears. Even if the fears seem unfounded to you, they are very real to the person experiencing them.

Social Anxiety Disorder Part 1

Filed under: Mental Health, Family Health, Health — @ 12:34 pm

Do you experience intense fear during social interactions, or avoid speaking in class or dining with co workers, or do you tremble and sweat at the thought of attending a party? If so you may be suffering from social anxiety disorder or social phobia, which is an experience of fear, apprehension, or worries regarding social situations that can make you feel trapped and very uncomfortable. If your anxiety about social situations is so severe that it disrupts your daily life and relationships to the point where you are sick with worry, it’s time to get professional help. People who suffer from this disorder vary in how often they experience anxiety, which is common in situations where they are to be evaluated by others, such as during public speaking engagements, performances, or interviews. However, not all cases deal with the fear of being judged negatively, social phobia can also be related to shyness causing physiological symptoms like sweating and blushing, which is why many patients simply avoid social interaction.

Proper diagnosis of social anxiety disorder is made by a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, or mental health professional. Physical symptoms often accompany the phobia, characterized by excessive blushing, sweating, trembling, palpitations, nausea, stammering, or panic attacks, which can occur under intense fear and discomfort triggered by perceived or actual scrutiny by others. The disorder can cause long-lasting social anxiety and relatively extreme distress and impaired ability to function in at least some areas of daily life. Symptoms of social anxiety disorder can present themselves in a more specific manner, like only in particular situations, or it can be more generalized, which involves persistent, intense, and chronic fear of being judged by others, and of potentially being embarrassed or humiliated by their own actions.

According to various websites that provide information on the topic, approximately 13% of the general population meets the criteria for social phobia at some point in their lifetime.
Early diagnosis may help in minimizing the symptoms and development of additional problems like depression. Common treatments usually include psychotherapy, medication, or both. Antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) have proven to be effective treatment strategies for social anxiety disorder. Go online to find reliable and unbiased information to learn more about treatment and coping strategies; free yourself from this troubling but treatable condition. Don’t suffer any longer, seek help from a qualified mental health professional now, you’ll be glad you did.

Advanced Nutrients

Filed under: Vitamins, Health Food, Diets, Health — @ 9:50 am

The body is remarkably resourceful. It takes what it gets and it does the best that it can. Many take vitamins because they know they aren’t eating like they should, but even some of those people are taking too much. What they don’t realize is that when they are taking too much, the liver must work overtime to rid the body of what it can not use. Unlike storing energy for later, the body can not store vitamins. If they are not useful, they are discarded. Those who take advanced nutrients might be doing more harm than good.

Between foods and vitamins, it is hard to know if we are getting what we need, or if we are overdoing it. The average person might need a multivitamin, but that is about all they need. If they are taking advance nutrients, they may be overloading their liver, making it work harder than it has to. Even those that eat very poorly might be surprised to find out that they really don’t need all of those extra things you can get when you stock up on advanced nutrients. Not only could these harm the body, they can drain the pocketbook needlessly.

There are some who will benefit from advanced nutrients in many forms. Children are often ones who have problems with eating, and they can get some benefit. Athletes are often in need of something a little extra, though not all of them will need this. High school children are probably okay with a good, balanced diet and a vitamin, but those who train all day and play professionally might need something extra in the form of advance nutrients. Others with some diseases and illnesses might also benefit.

However, this is not something the average person can ascertain for themselves. When someone wishes to take advanced nutrients for any reason, they should have a long talk with their doctor about the possibility. It might even be wise to go over a person’s average menu to see what might be missing. A change in diet might negate the need to spend money on and taking advanced nutrients. A doctor knows the score, and they can recommend what you need while looking out for a person’s health all at the same time. A nutritionist can also help, and might be even more helpful than a doctor at times. As long as someone is keeping an eye on things, everything should be just fine.

Best Skin Care Products

Filed under: Skin Care, Beauty, Cosmetic — @ 4:08 pm

Have you ever stopped to consider the number of advertisements that are directed to you everyday about how you look? Some day when you get up start keeping track of the number of commercials and printed ads you see that involve a health or beauty product. The television, radio, newspapers and billboards are filled with advertisings ways that you can look and feel better and younger.

Everyone seems to be seeking the best skin care product and the best way of looking younger. The health and beauty aisle at the store is filled with lotions and potions in every color size and scent. Each one claims to be the best skin care product on the market. Then there are the products that you can only by through a private distributor. These are more expensive and are guaranteed to be the best skin care product that you will ever use.

I have found that as long as I am consistent in using any product they all work about the same. If I do a good job of washing my face and putting on a moisturizer before bed and then put on another application of moisturizer under my make up in the morning, my skin looks and feels good. Occasionally I will use a peel off masque to remove dead skin. I have found that the more lotions and potions I expose my skin to the drier it gets. In my opinion the best skin care product is consistency. People will see an advertisement or will go to a home party featuring beauty products and they will buy lotions and other skin care accessories. Because they have spent so much and have a renewed interest in how they look they will be diligent in their skin care regiment and they will look better. I believe that if they would have taken any product and used it faithfully they would have the same results. As long as you avoid harsh chemicals, which hardly any skin care products contain, you are going to get similar results from the various products. I find that if I find a lotion that I like the smell of I am more apt to put it on after my shower to help keep my skin soft. Our skin is the largest organ we have. It pays to be good to it and to keep it healthy. The best skin care product that we can use on a daily basis is protection from the sun. Sun damage not only weakens the skin but it ages it and may cause cancer. Protecting your skin from the sun and cleaning it on a daily basis will help to keep you looking good.

Benefits Of Supplements

Filed under: Nutrition, Vitamins, Mens Health, Womens Health, Weight Loss — @ 1:46 pm

When you consider all the hustle and bustle of today’s world, it’s no big surprise that most of us fail to get a well-balanced diet. It’s not easy preparing three nutritious meals every day. Especially when our careers don’t allow such free time and convenience. This is why so many of us are led a stray by fast food ads and clever marketing. We see those alluring commercials and crave that juicy burger and fries. But, we have to get out of the rut. There are a number of quick and easy alternatives. Think handy supplements such as protein bars, breakfast shakes, and meal replacement snacks. With these you can curb that hunger and receive the supplements benefits in the process.

We need more vitamins and minerals. This is where fast food is seriously lacking. And no it doesn’t just stop at the horrible fat, sodium and cholesterol. Although these ingredients take a terrible toll on your body, the other negative aspect of fast food is that it offers you nothing good at all. It’s like filling your stomach with garbage. All it does is offer poor calories and fill the void. In reality we need more healthy meals. That’s why so many individuals are now considering supplements benefits. You can pick up a Met-RX bar from the grocery store for 2 bucks and that can be your lunch. Check out the vast array of vitamins and minerals in these wonderful bars. Plus you do get the calories and carbs you need for energy. And let’s not dismiss multivitamins. You should be taking one of these each and every day with a meal. This way your body can absorb plenty of the nutrients it lacks from ordinary meals. Start your multivitamin regime at an early age if possible. The earlier the better.

Maybe you’re not too sure where to begin with supplements benefits. Well, let me keep things simple for you. What are you looking to focus on as far as your body and health are concerned? If you want more protein in your diet, there are plenty of supplements for that. Or if you’re searching for a more complete energizing snack bar, then you may want to check out what Clif bars have to offer. The next time you’re in the supermarket, browse through the supplement isle and explore the new world of nutrition.

Stomach Ache Remedies

Filed under: Childrens Health, Family Health, Allergies, Health — @ 1:45 pm

Adults know all too well the importance of having stomach ache remedies to ease discomfort from time and we all may have a favorite trick that we use on days when we don’t feel up to par. However, when it comes to kids, some of the stomach ache remedies aren’t really helpful. Following are some ideas to help you with a child’s troubled tummy.

Nausea is never pleasant and when you know that your child is feeling ill you want to do everything that you can to make things better. Many over-the-counter medications used to ease stomach pain aren’t well accepted by youngsters. Even some stomach ache remedies made for kids may leave your little one running in the other direction.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a handful of natural stomach ache remedies to use when you don’t have and medicine on hand? Wouldn’t it be even better if those nausea remedies were well received by your child? Of course you want your little one to feel better as soon as possible and with as little struggle as possible.

If your child will drink tea, you have a couple of solutions at your fingertips. Keep a stock of Chamomile tea on hand. This tea is a natural stomach ache remedy that is a pleasure to drink. Your child will be feeling better in a few minutes after having some of this calming tea and after getting a little rest.

Peppermint tea is another natural stomach ache remedy appreciated by people of all ages. I personally prefer drinking Chamomile tea because the peppermint flavor doesn’t seem to go with a beverage but this is just a personal preference. If I’m feeling ill, I don’t mind a cup of peppermint tea at all.

There is a drawback to using these natural stomach ache remedies. They take some time to prepare. The tea needs to steep for about 20 minutes to reach the right potency to do the trick. This may be a little too long for some parents to wait.

If you don’t want to wait or if your little one won’t drink tea you might want to try peppermint candy. A regular old candy cane is a surprising stomach ache remedy that many moms use for morning sickness. This tasty treat can be used on little tummies as well.

Feeling under the weather is never fun but it is worse when your child is uncomfortable. When medications aren’t available or not well-received, it’s nice to know that a little peppermint will help ease your child’s discomfort.

Atkins Diet Any Good?

Filed under: Health Food, Weight Loss, Diets, Health — @ 8:10 pm

The people in America are becoming more obsessed with weight and dieting. We are also getting heavier than any other time in the nations history. There are diets, surgeries and supplements that are geared towards helping people lose weight, but most of them fail to get people to address the true issue of looking at how they need to change their lifestyle to keep the weight off.

My husband and I decided that we needed to address our weight. We were both carrying more weight than we needed to be. Friends of ours were on the low carbohydrates diet, and had lost weight quickly, but our question was does the atkins diet work in keeping the weight off. We decided that we would research this and other diets to see what we would be able to fit into our lives the easiest. We knew that the plan had to be easy to follow and flexible in order for us to stay on it. We knew that most diets would give you results if followed faithfully, yet we were concerned about what happens in the long term.

My husband had me look into low carb dieting to know does the atkins diet work and he was going to look into lower fat dieting. In a way asking the question does Atkins diet work seemed silly considering that the number of people that were following some form of it was growing on a national level. Restaurants and fast food chains were changing their menus to accommodate the number of people that were looking for foods that were lower in carbohydrates. Due to the number of people that are following the Atkins diet it was easy to find information on it.

After doing research on does the atkins diet work I found that the entire process is dedicated to changing your eating habits for a life time. The strict low carbohydrate intake is used to drop weight, but then a full regiment for adding some healthy carbs back into the diet is outlined in the books and other materials that are available. The goal is to add enough carbohydrates back into your daily routine to satisfy your hunger and cravings, without over doing to the point of gaining weight back. The consistent report that successful dieters gave was that they did not feel hungry while cutting back on the carbohydrates. Most people reported having increased energy as well. We have decided that we will try reducing the carbohydrates in our diet and also cut the amount of fat we take in. We are creating a hybrid system that we hope will give us results as well as change our eating habits for the rest of our lives.

Detoxification Diets

Filed under: Fitness, Detox, Diets, Health — @ 7:39 am

It seems that there’s always some new alternative therapy that’s all the rage, and right now its detoxification diets. These diets are intended to help the body to eliminate toxins in many ways, and while detox diets are effective by themselves, they may be reinforced by eating certain foods and drinking prescribed liquids. Just like anything else, how well these diets work for you will depend on how well you follow them, and of course, it’s not right for everyone. As before starting any type of diet or exercise program, it’s recommended that you speak with a health care professional first, regarding your physical health, and how the process may affect any current health conditions. A detox diet may be contraindicated in people with certain chronic illness, and who are on certain prescribed medications.

The removal of potentially toxic substances from the body is a common treatment for alcohol and drug dependence, but the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health. The benefits of detoxification diets and how to properly detoxify your body can be found on a number of sites online. Just remember that not all of these cleansing therapies are safe, and some can really cause harm to your body, which is why it’s so important to consult your physician first before proceeding with any type of detoxification program. The liver is the primary organ involved in detoxification, which is why it’s important to support and protect the liver during the detoxification process, especially if there are any health concerns involved. Elimination in the form of stool and urine is also increased to cleanse the colon, and to enhance circulation to clear toxic substances and allergens from the body.

For general information about detoxification diets, visit www.altmedicine.about.com, for instructions and common questions about how to detox your body using colon cleanses and prescribed food lists. Start with the detox screening quiz, learn the detoxification diet basics, find out what foods to eat and ones to avoid, and how the diet can be customized for individual needs. Many people believe that various health conditions are caused by toxins and pollutants in the body, which can cause everything from indigestion, food sensitivities, and bacterial overgrowths to weak hair, skin, and nails. Detoxification diets are intended to rejuvenate both the mind and body, the premise being that as toxins are eliminated from the body, our outlook changes toward a more healthier vision, once that will enhance and sustain life, and create more positive energy around us, something we all need!

Thinking Of Joing A Fitness Gym Or Health Club?

Filed under: Fitness, Mens Health, Womens Health, Weight Loss — @ 9:11 pm

A Fitness gym is the best place where we can utilize different fitness machines to remove the excess weight available in body in form of fats. Another popular fitness gym is the private studio that focuses specifically on personal training. Today’s fitness gym is a far cry from the older work out facilities from years ago.

Today’s fitness gym is a far cry from the older work out facilities from years ago. Never before have you had the ability to choose from so many different options in this particular realm. One consideration that you want to make is whether you want to visit a fitness gym on site or whether you want to build one of your own in your home.

The home fitness gym is a concept that has been developing over the years. There are many wonderful options in workout equipment that you can order, have delivered and assembled in little time at all. You can easily be well on your way to a healthier lifestyle with your home fitness gym.

But is the home the right place for your specific needs? Some of us really like to visit the local fitness gym for many reasons. The first is motivation. I love to meet with my friends for a long workout at the gym followed by a quick swim. I like having a membership to a fitness gym for the social aspects but there are other benefits as well.

I would love to have a fitness gym in my own home, filled with my favorite workout equipment. However, space is a major factor in my small apartment. I just can’t fit everything I need into the little room that I have. I’m lucky that I can fit my clothes in my apartment.

The space issue is a considerable factor in my case but others may have plenty of room to spare. The home fitness gym is the perfect option for anyone who wants to get in a quick workout in as little time as possible. Consider how much time you will save traveling to t
